HanscoLens

Lens technology

Precision optics, engineered for clearer everyday vision.

From single vision to freeform progressives, every Hansco lens is surfaced, coated and inspected to a consistent standard. Explore the range, the coatings and the process behind it.

01 · Single vision

One prescription, ground to a precise optical centre.

Single vision lenses correct one field of focus, near, intermediate or distance, with a uniform power across the whole lens. They are the foundation of our range, available as spherical, aspheric and atoric designs.

Who it’s for

Everyday wearers with myopia, hyperopia or astigmatism, and younger patients who do not yet need a reading addition. A dependable choice for dispensing opticians who want predictable results.

Key benefits

  • Aspheric and atoric designs help keep edges flatter and the field of view wider
  • Stocked in popular power ranges for same-day dispatch
  • Available uncut or edged and mounted to your frame specification
  • Pairs with every coating in our range

02 · Progressive

Seamless vision at every distance, without the line.

Progressive lenses blend distance, intermediate and near power in a single lens with no visible segment. Our freeform designs are computed per prescription and frame, so the corridor sits where the wearer actually looks.

Who it’s for

Presbyopic wearers who want one pair for driving, screens and reading. Particularly suited to opticians fitting first-time progressive wearers who value an easier adaptation.

Key benefits

  • Freeform surfacing is designed to widen the usable zones and reduce peripheral blur
  • Short- and standard-corridor options to suit a wide range of frames
  • Individualised parameters: vertex distance, pantoscopic tilt and wrap
  • Clear fitting marks for quick, accurate verification at the bench

03 · Blue-cut

Made for long days in front of screens.

Blue-cut lenses selectively reduce transmission of high-energy blue-violet light from digital screens and LED lighting, while keeping the lens looking clear. Available as a coating on most lens types.

Who it’s for

Office professionals, students and gamers who spend many hours on devices. Opticians often recommend them as a comfort-focused upgrade for digital-heavy lifestyles.

Key benefits

  • Designed to reduce exposure to high-energy blue-violet light
  • May help ease the look of glare and contrast on bright displays
  • Minimal residual colour, so lenses look clear in photographs and video calls
  • Combines with anti-reflective and hydrophobic layers

04 · Photochromic

Clear indoors. Comfortably tinted in the sun.

Photochromic lenses contain light-reactive molecules that darken in response to UV and return to clear indoors, so one pair adapts as conditions change. Tint depth and speed depend on UV level and temperature.

Who it’s for

Wearers who move between indoors and outdoors throughout the day and prefer not to carry a second pair, from commuters and drivers to outdoor workers.

Key benefits

  • Tints automatically outdoors and fades back to clear indoors
  • May help reduce squinting in bright conditions
  • Available in grey, brown and green tint families
  • Works with single vision, progressive and high-index designs

05 · High-index

Stronger prescriptions, visibly slimmer lenses.

High-index materials bend light more efficiently, so less material is needed to achieve the same power. The result is a thinner, lighter lens with a flatter profile, which is especially noticeable above about ±3.00 D.

Who it’s for

Wearers with medium to high prescriptions, and anyone choosing rimless or semi-rimless frames where edge thickness is on show.

Key benefits

  • Thinner edges and a flatter curve for a more discreet look
  • Lighter in the frame, which may improve everyday comfort
  • Aspheric surfaces help limit magnification and the 'bug-eye' effect
  • Recommended with anti-reflective coating to manage surface reflections

06 · Coatings

Surface treatments that do the quiet work.

Every Hansco lens can be finished with a layered coating stack. Each layer has a defined job: strengthening the surface, cutting reflections, and helping the lens stay cleaner for longer.

Who it’s for

Everyone. Coatings are the simplest way to lift day-to-day comfort, and a reliable upsell for opticians. Compare what is included with each lens type in the table below.

Key benefits

  • Anti-reflective layers are designed to reduce glare and ghosting, especially at night
  • Hydrophobic and oleophobic top coats help water and smudges wipe away
  • Scratch-resistant hard coat adds day-to-day durability
  • UV400 protection blocks UV light up to 400 nm

Manufacturing & quality

Precision you can verify, lens by lens.

Consistent results at the dispensing bench start with a controlled process. Here is how we make and check every pair.

  1. Freeform digital surfacing

Each prescription lens is computed and surfaced on digitally controlled generators and polishers, allowing complex curves and individualised progressive designs.

  2. Lensometer verification

Power, axis, prism and optical centre are measured on a calibrated lensometer, and every lens is checked before it leaves the lab.

  3. 100% visual inspection

Trained inspectors examine each lens under controlled lighting for surface defects, coating faults and inclusions.

  4. Standards-based tolerances

Finished lenses are verified against ISO 8980 requirements: part 1 for uncut single vision and multifocal lenses, part 2 for progressive-power lenses.
